CDC To Black Rabbit

The famous week 6 better known as Rag week to most people. Design is a strong passion of mine but so is drinking which seems to have a say in my life from time to time! Therefore, I ended up missing this class but having a great time all the same. Do not worry, I was able to catch up on what was covered in class and make sense of the main theme behind the lesson.

Thinking. Something we do countless times throughout each day. A thought process resolves around everything we do. From thinking out our routine each day, to deciding what clothes we wear, thinking is essential in everyday life and it is also essential in the design world. Thinking is involved in every single project we do. “Just have a think about it”, “think about certain elements to consider such as…” etc etc. As a student designer I always think about what I want to do with my work. This is where Muireanns topic for the class comes into play. Future Thinking.

Ask my parents, since about 5 years of age all I have ever said is “I want to do something in sport”. I was “Future Thinking”. That quote from the innocent 5-year-old me still sticks in my head. I always think about what ill do in the future with design and sport just keeps entering my head as the first choice. To quote Abraham Lincoln himself, “The most reliable way to predict the future is to create it.” I want to lay down the steppingstones in my design career to create a path that resolves around sport. Some people say it might be a bit far fetched but who cares if its possible, what is to stop me?

From what the information I received about the class, Muireann had set up oriented games set up around Future Thinking. The Polak Game which reveals people’s theories about what they think the future holds for them. The game is split up into an x and y-axis and included with the x-axis representing how feel as individuals and the y-axis representing how things are now in the world now. Personally, I think its vital that we do what we can to help the world. We were put here for a reason and if that reason is to design, teach or lead who cares at the end of the day everyone should be treated equally and we should always strive to have the world in a good place for future generations.

Thus, I feel this class would have been a lot more effective if I were present. We are all entitled to enjoy our lives like we should do with design. Nobody knows what the future holds, and I think if we are given an opportunity to make a path to lead it into something we want to do, I know I will not be hesitating!

Cheers to the Black Rabbit for a great Donegal Tuesday on rag week!!
